Urgent: Horses Dying from Cruelty in L’Île D’Orléans
I just read this on Celine Tremblay’s “potin” (blog) about a colt dying because of random and cruel neglect on Ile d’Orleans. This is from Céline’s post:
Cette semaine, j’aimerais vous parler d’un cas de cruauté envers les chevaux à L’Île D’Orléans. Plusieurs plaintes semblent avoir été faites auprès de la MAPAC, la SPA Anima-Québec et la Sûreté du Québec sans grand succès.
Promesse est un poulain frison de 2 ans dont la cote de chair est actuellement de 0, tout au plus 1. Visiblement affaibli, ses jours sont comptés avec l’arrivée de l’hiver.
Les plaintes au MAPAQ n’ayant rien donné et l’impuissance de la Sûreté du Québec à intervenir, forcent mon appel au public.
Dans le creux de son oreille, j’ai fait la promesse au poulain de me battre pour lui (et pour la horde). J’ai nommé ce petit cheval « Promesse ». Merci de contribuer à mon effort de sauvetage, car il y a urgence.
I wish I’d seen this sooner because apparently a demonstration was held today, December 3rd. This, after appeals to the Sûreté du Québec, Anima-Québec, and MAPAQ (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Production of Quebec) got nowhere (what else is new?). I am the person behind the effort to save Promesse. For the last 8 months, I have been fighting for the horses of Ile d’Orléans. Within the last 30 days 6 have died. Other died during the winter. Among those dead this month, a newborn foal that has been washed by the owner on a cold day. He died from hypothermia. Yesterday only,3 died.
What can I do to help, Louise??
Sorry, I did not come and visit sooner. Cynthia, spread awarness. Quebec is the one province where everything that is human seems to have no meaning. So spread the word around. Write your provincial, local, national SPCA, horse refuge whoever can write to the minister at ministre.mapaq@mapaq.gouv.qc.ca. Thank you for your concern. I am so HAPPY to hear from you, Louise! I have already face-booked your first message, as well as the demonstration location, etc. Rest assured that I am constantly emailing/blogging about the treatment of horses in QC. There are “pockets” of Quebeckers who feel as you and I do–that horses should never be subjected to slaughter, abuse and neglect. I’m on it (and have been for over a decade). I will share your comments pronto as well as what I know of the Ile D’Orleans situation. The foal, Promesse, is dead then??

Please everyone help Louise with saving these horses.I was at this farm in Orleans back in November .The one colt was a body rating of 1 was SO close to death..I begged the owner to let us take him & get him much needed medical care..Also offered to buy him..NO NO NO…This colt I believe has already passed..I have done many hours of phone calls to Canada..Contacted all my friends in Canada & Sent & Called Orleans Police letters ect..I have Contacted the MSSPA in Maine USA..Director has called the Montreal branch od Humane society..Please Support these horses that are left..We don’t want them to suffer ! Help Louise in this battle to get these horses to Safe, Loving homes with care & FOOD!!! Thank You in Advance. Stephanie Keene

That little colt Stephanie is relating to is the symbol of my quest. We named him Promesse (Promise), because I made a promise to him that night that I would never let him down. Promesse died as it was expected. Those are left and I will hold my Promise to him by saving the others. Thank you Stephanie for all that you did and still are doing to raise awareness on those horses and thank you to all of you to be behind me during this long and difficult cruisade.
